On a summer day in 2023, NAMO received an ordinary design invitation to create a new home for a loving retired couple. At first, we still had our own ideas and tried to make the design style fit the age of the homeowners as much as possible, but through several conversations with the homeowners, their simple, simple, funny, cute, and childlike spirit gave us more inspirations, and we finally decided to design a dream house with a strong sense of contrast, but at the same time, reflecting the characteristics of the homeowners.

2023年的一个夏日，那漠含风收到一份再平凡不过的设计邀请，为一对恩爱的退休夫妻打造一个新家。起初依然是抱有固有观念，力图让设计风格尽量去贴合屋主的年龄，但通过几次与屋主的交谈，他们简单质朴、有趣可爱、富有童心的精神面貌给予了更多的灵感启发，我们最终决定设计一个具有极强反差感但又同时能反映屋主特征的梦幻之屋。

Away from the city center, the new house is quiet and cozy, a few hundred meters to the south there is a small river that runs through the city, there are always birds flying overhead, and there are some farmers selling their own fruits and vegetables in their stalls by the side of the road. These elements are reminiscent of Francis Mays' Under the Tuscan Sun, in which the author writes, “Under the fig tree, two cats curled up and we cooled off. I have counted the pigeons cooing sixty times a minute. The Etruscan stone wall on the hilltop above our house, however, dates back to the 8th century BC. We can talk, we have all the time in the world.” Small-town Tuscan life in the '90s then became our primary source of inspiration, fitting all the summer imagery of the other side of the globe into an ordinary residential building.

新房远离市中心，安静舒适，往南几百米便是一条穿过市区的小河，总有鸟儿在头顶飞过，还有一些农夫在路边摆摊卖着自己种的瓜果。这些元素让人不禁想起弗朗西斯·梅斯的《托斯卡纳艳阳下》，作者在书中这样写到，“无花果树下，有两只猫咪蜷伏着，我们也感到很凉快。我已经数过，鸽子每分钟咕咕地叫60声。我们房子上方山顶上的伊特鲁里亚石壁的历史却可以追溯到公元前8世纪。我们可以交谈，我们有的是时间。”90年代的托斯卡纳小镇生活便成了我们最主要的灵感源泉，在一栋普通的住宅楼里装进所有关于地球另一端的夏日想象。

Wisteria is a plant unique to Tuscany that climbs all over the old, old brick walls in the summer. Therefore, we used a color close to wisteria on many walls of the house, so that when you are in the house, you can smell the wisteria, and the feeling of summer will come to you. The tiles on the floor are slightly aged, as if you were walking on the medieval stone paths of the old city of Siena. At different times of the day, the sunlight falls in different directions and at different color temperatures, and when the sunlight is diffusely reflected on the floor and then on the walls, the wisteria color takes on different shades of pink or purple.

紫藤是托斯卡纳特有的一种植物，夏日会爬满旧旧的砖墙。因此，我们在房子的多面墙壁上都应用了接近紫藤的一种颜色，置身其中，便好似能闻到紫藤的味道，夏日的感觉就会扑面而来。地面瓷砖微微发旧，宛若走在锡耶纳古城中世纪就存在的石板路上。房子在一天当中的不同时间段，阳光洒落的方向和色温也不尽相同，阳光经过地面的漫反射再映到墙壁上时，紫藤色也会呈现出不同感觉的粉或紫。

The living room and the dining room have a weak separation relationship, the living room is set on both sides of the storage cabinets, and the wall is one, so that people do not feel its existence. In the middle of the cabinets on both sides, a four-sided mirror is specially designed, which can bring in more light, and people will see different scenes when they are in different angles, and the contents of the virtual and real will form a lot of interesting combinations, such as kaleidoscopes. Mirrors and cabinets outline two different scales of the doorway, as in a shuttle in an ancient Roman building.

客厅和餐厅有微弱的区隔关系，客厅两侧设置有储物柜，与墙壁浑然一体，让人感觉不到它的存在。而在两侧柜子的中间，特别设计了一个四面镜，除了可以引入更多光线，人处在不同的角度时会看到不同的景象，虚与实的内容会形成很多有趣的组合，如万花筒一般。镜子与柜子勾勒出两块尺度不一的门洞，如同穿梭于一处古罗马建筑。

The living room is predominantly white, contrasted with cheese-colored curtains, and a custom-made shaped white travertine coffee table sits lightly in the middle of the living room, matching high and low. The east wall is customized with an oil painting at one end, a blue glass bowl filled with grapes and a vase filled with purple flowers, clumsy and vivid, like a still life painting by Cézanne, half realistic and half imagined. On the west wall hangs an abstract painting made up of countless horizontal lines, from a distance it looks like a painting with only a base color, and when the sunlight pours on it, it just forms its final state. A stool made up of geometric shapes is pasted from shells, a quirky style that adds an exotic touch to the living room.

客厅以白色为主，而形成鲜明对比的是芝士颜色的窗帘，量身定制的异形白色洞石茶几轻盈地摆在客厅中间，高低搭配。东侧墙壁一端定制一幅写意油画，蓝色的玻璃碗里放满了葡萄，花瓶里插满了紫色的花朵，笨拙而生动，就像塞尚的静物画作，一半写实一半想象。西侧墙壁则挂着一幅由无数根横向线条构成的抽象画，远看就是一幅只上了底色的画，阳光洒在它上面的时候，就正好形成了它的最终态。一个由几何形体构成的凳子是由贝壳粘贴而成，怪异的风格给客厅增添了异域风情。

The dining room and kitchen operation area is gently shaded by a curtain, still in a strong cheese color, the sight of which will always make you want to cook a hearty and lazy breakfast with a thick layer of cheese on toasted bread. The dining table made of tempered glass makes the dining room extremely transparent and light, and this is the best place to invite friends or have a cup of tea.

餐厅和厨房操作区是由一面窗帘轻轻地遮挡，依旧是浓烈的芝士颜色，看到它总会想做一顿丰盛而慵懒的早餐，在烤熟的面包上涂一层厚厚的芝士。钢化玻璃制成的餐桌面，让餐厅变得极为通透和轻盈，宴请朋友或者喝喝茶，这里就是最佳位置。

The wisteria-colored wall that extends from the dining room's high cabinets continues to the entrance of the master bedroom. Entering the master bedroom is a slightly different space, with a light blue wall as a backdrop, reminiscent of the midday sky, like this oil painting on the north wall depicting a small dock under the hot sun. A specially customized multi-functional headboard box can hold many of life's sundries in a simple and useful way. The house originally had three bedrooms, and we converted a small bedroom directly opposite the entrance door into an open checkroom, thus freeing up more space in the master and second bedrooms.

从餐厅的高柜延伸过来的紫藤色墙面，一直延伸到主卧门口。进了主卧便是感受略有不同的空间，淡蓝色墙面为背景，让人想到正午的天空，就像北墙上这幅油画，描绘了烈日下的一个小码头。特别定制的多功能床头箱可以容纳许多生活杂物，简单好用。房子原本有三个卧室，我们将正对入户门的一间小卧室改造成了敞开的衣帽间，因而就让主卧和次卧释放出了更大的空间。

In this design, we skillfully blended an urban and rural feel to create a fully imagined vacation home for a middle-class Italian family on a low budget. As the words of “Under the Tuscan Sun” say, “As long as one continues to walk in the footsteps of the past, one cannot be reborn. Though I can't forget the known, I prefer the wonder of the unknown”, this new home will open up a whole new journey for the two homeowners.

在这次的设计中，我们巧妙地融合了都市感和乡野感，用较低的预算打造出了一个完全想象中的意大利中产阶级家庭度假屋。就像《托斯卡纳艳阳下》中的这段文字“只要仍旧梭巡于旧日的足迹，就无法获得新生。虽然我难忘已知的东西，但更钟情于未知的惊奇”，这个新房会开启两位屋主全新的旅程。
