Liljencrantz Design was to carry out a complete renovation of this five-bedroom flat with two floors.

Liljencrantz Design

Standing on the residence's 360-degree terrace, one can see the Stockholm skyline. Although the building in which the residence is located was built in 1905, unfortunately the original windows of the building have been altered at some point in time, which reduces the character and charm of a building with a certain history. The home was also in poor condition prior to renovation, and the design team at Liljencrantz Design had to start from scratch as the previous owners had failed to carry out a proper renovation.

Fortunately, this gave Liljencrantz Design the opportunity to create the perfect brand new space for a family of three.

‘Based on the client's requirements, we made three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and dressing room, as well as a combined kitchen and dining area, including a lounge area connected to the hall and main entrance. On the top floor, we created a living room that leads to a terrace with an outdoor kitchen. The home is very social, but due to the location of the spatial layout, the bedrooms are placed in every corner of the flat, but still have privacy. It's a perfect setup when a family of three lives together,’ explains Louise Liljencrantz.

For Louise Liljencrantz, it is therefore also crucial to be as specific as possible about every little detail from the very beginning of the design process, and Louise Liljencrantz often presents a complete concept and aesthetic direction to her clients early on in the design process.

However, Louise Liljencrantz also finds herself trying new things. ‘The living room is located in the attic, and usually we don't mix various types of wood. But in this case, the first floor has its own character, so making it a light palette of warm white and beige tones with oak for the furniture gives the space a natural sense of ambience’, Louise Liljencrantz points out her own favourite part of the project when talking about the upstairs rooms and their airy, cloud-like atmosphere.

‘This way of working creates a platform for us to shape our vision together with the wishes of our clients and to be able to communicate the end result in a simple way’, Louise Liljencrantz elaborates.

Louise Liljencrantz

For this residence, a rich colour scheme was also one of the key design concerns. A warm and rich mahogany was chosen for the ground floor and is rooted in the space with an almost solid presence of wood.

From the ground floor, the colours, fabrics and materials continue to evolve upwards - the mixing and matching of the warmth of the wood on the first floor with the cooler tones of the grey-blue, as well as the interspersing of hard lines and curves, all contribute to the continued upward evolution and extension of the sense of spatial ambience.

Louise Liljencrantz explains, ‘Design has been a labour of love from the beginning, and so many good things have come out of it. Every time I walk into the master bedroom, I get a feeling. It's spacious, it's cosy and it calms me down completely. The natural light and colours create magic in this room.’

Louise Liljencrantz
