The ‘see-through’ private residence was designed by interior designer Robin Klang, founder of Perspective studio and one of Sweden's most exciting interior designers.

The grey tones of the flat are being brightened up in a space that has been understated for a few years now, with understated walls, textiles and high quality materials for example.

From super stylish flats to understated residential environments, grey is splashed across the residential horizon, and when someone is interested in all things grey, there's a different kind of ‘burst of colour’ here. This ‘explosion’ takes place in a 142 sq ft five-bedroom flat in Östermalm, Stockholm, Sweden, where we see a discreet change in colour and tone.

‘Yes, we're moving towards brighter colour schemes, optimism for the future, and a happier direction’, “We're mixing more colours and experimenting, but keeping a matte texture throughout the space”, says Perspective studio founder Robin Klang says.

‘It's a warm vanilla white’ laughs Robin Klang ’Some people would say it looks like someone has been smoking for years. That's a bit of an overstatement, the colours are more like a make-up palette, a subtle balance of different powders but also the colours of landscapes such as mist on the fields, dreamy beaches, early morning skies and so on’.

Lime pigment is applied by hand to the texturally varied surfaces. ‘The surface layer of the space is important to me because my interiors are so spartan. Textured linen fabrics, linen sofas, fine tactile materials on furniture and objects, from matte to glossy, make for an interesting look.’ Robin Klang says.

It wasn't easy to find these special colours, but eventually Robin Klang found a factory than was located in Leeds that could supply what he wanted.

The colours come from the Dutch family business Pure & original, founded by Erwin Floor in 2006, and now the company with the factory supplies eco-friendly colours to the world.

Robin Klang developed a colour scheme that also included colours such as plum purple and green to liven up the rooms with parquet doors and parquet floors in this turn-of-the-century flat. The calm foundation was already in place and it didn't require much renovation, just reflooring and restoring finishes.

Robin Klang

Robin Klang says, ‘The owner of this home was also a former client of mine and he gave me complete freedom, it was a dream job’, ‘The largest room in this home is the kitchen, with a fireplace in the corner, as they love to socialise, entertain friends and interact with their children and grandchildren in the kitchen. children and grandchildren interacting together in the kitchen life’.

Robin Klang

The sense of ambience in the room is established with dark and slightly mysterious objects such as an urn, sculptural lamps, and an extravagant table made of Norwegian slate or steel plate, all designed by Robin Klang, an interior designer with a penchant for a sense of theatre on stage.
