Irakli Zaria
Without knowing the context of the space, the moment you cross the threshold of the entrance, you will see the small courtyard behind the wrought iron gate, the cut plants in pots, the grey stone steps, all of which make it seem as if you are in Paris, as this city is as often featured in the social networks of the interior designer Irakli Zaria as Moscow, London or Tbilisi. The building in which the flat is located is next door to the Rue de Terville, and the building is an example of Soviet constructivism from the late 1920s.
‘When I saw it,’ says Irakli Zaria, ’I was overwhelmed by an atypical detail - the corner, the highest part of the house ends in an elegant dome, under which the flat actually sits! ‘.
The building in which the flat is located has been virtually unoccupied since it was built, so the interior designer Irakli Zaria was in need of a complete refurbishment here before moving in.
‘The arrangement of the corners of the flat is one of my favourites’ says Irakli Zaria ’Every corner of the flat, even a small one, reveals new perspectives. In addition, I planned a circular movement around the flat, so as to maximise the use of space in a relatively small space of about 90 square metres’.

Inside, you'll easily recognise the influence of Jean-Michel Franck, a designer ahead of his time, whose work is very close to me, and a pair of boxes decorated with golden straw are always on my desk. The space also boasts a classic bohemian lightness - ivory coloured, partially inlaid. The interiors are further simplified in terms of their complexity, which is just a backdrop for the paintings, sculptures and art objects in the space,’ says flat owner Irakli Zaria.

‘The interior of the space is not meant to be purely for display, on the contrary in a sense it is very intimate because everything that is so close to me is collected here. It's only a fifteen-minute walk from the flat to my studio, where work is in full swing, and a thirty-minute drive to the airport, but I always come back to myself, to design and to life, in every sense of the word.’
