Crafted by Canadian architecture and interior design studio Atelier Carle, BROM Residence is anchored to a lakeside estate in Quebec’s Eastern Townships, carrying nearly a century of family history.
The client’s father was among the first settlers here, and today family members remain scattered throughout the area, thus imbuing the project with profound emotional significance.
Atelier Carle architect and interior designer Isaniel Lévesque explains: "Despite the considerable scale of the home due to family needs, the client insisted the architecture must echo the spirit of the place. Our focus was on building cultural continuity with the rural architecture of this region, ensuring this larger structure could engage in a dialogue of scale with surrounding buildings. This led us to abandon any predefined aesthetics."
Collaborating with BBD Construction and landscape designer Oscar Hacche, Atelier Carle created a freestanding residence composed of three timber-clad volumes. Through this project, they shaped a sustainability strategy that emphasizes architecture’s cultural role in rural settings. Facing an ever-evolving landscape, Atelier Carle adopted a reflective stance, rethinking contemporary residential design not only through global environmental concerns but also via the lens of locality, history, and shared cultural narratives.
